Pour ce faire, il d\u00e9place un c\u00f4ne (g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement en papier) devant une bobine de fil, ce qui g\u00e9n\u00e8re un courant alternatif. Ce courant traverse l&#039;aimant et cr\u00e9e un champ magn\u00e9tique autour de lui. Le fer \u00e0 l&#039;int\u00e9rieur de la bobine se d\u00e9place alors, cr\u00e9ant ainsi un courant \u00e9lectrique dans la bobine, fermant le circuit et la traversant. Les courants \u00e9lectriques cr\u00e9ent des champs magn\u00e9tiques qui se poussent l&#039;un l&#039;autre pour cr\u00e9er une zone entre eux o\u00f9 ils forment des aimants tr\u00e8s puissants (le p\u00f4le Nord et le p\u00f4le Sud). Plus ces aimants sont puissants, plus leur force s&#039;exerce l&#039;un contre l&#039;autre, ce qui r\u00e9duit cette zone. En effet, lorsqu&#039;ils atteignent leur point maximum, les semblables s&#039;attirent.
