Alnico 2 magnets for pickups
The magnet was special for guitar pickups, we have a friend familiar with the guitar pickups who said the alnico tonal is different from the ceramic magnet. they said the ceramic magnet pickups with more negative terms than alnico magnets. And he also said the alnico magnets are softer and typically weaker than ceramic, contributing to a lower-output and responsive pickup. that as a manufacturer we cannot understand that actually, the Alnico magnetic material is hard, personally don’t understand his words. He also tells us that the tone of the Alnico is described as warm, smooth, musical, or sweet. I think I cannot understand any about the music. And there is an Alnico 5 version, sometimes they call it Alnico V. He said the Alnico V pickups are higher-output than Alnico II (Alnico 2).
How are the Pickup Magnets Manufactured?
The Alnico II Magnet is a type of Cast Alnico Magnet,AlNiCo is mainly divided into cast AlNiCo and sintered AlNiCo. The AlNiCo magnets used on guitars are all made of cast AlNiCo.
Cast AlNiCo magnets are made by smelting a certain proportion of aluminum. Nickel, cobalt, iron, and other raw materials are melted into molten steel, introduced into a mold of a specific size, then heat-treated to improve the erroneous force and magnetic energy product, and finally processed to the size specified by the customer through a vertical grinding machine, a flat mold, and other grinding machines, and magnetically After passing the inspection, it will be magnetized and sent to the customer. The main performance of the Alnico guitar sheet is Alnico Type 2, Type 3, and Type 5. Type 8 has been rarely used.
At present, the main market is alnico2 and alnico5. The guitar sheet mainly needs to be processed to 62mm*3mm*12.5mm, There are many similar sizes near this size, depending on the customer’s requirements for processing, the special point is that the magnetization direction is very special. The magnetization direction is different from that of ordinary magnets. The magnetization direction of alnico5 is in the width direction. Due to its special properties, alnico2 is isotropic and can be magnetized in all directions. Customers can also use this to distinguish between alnico type 2 and alnico type 5. The difference between alnico type 2 and alnico type 5 in use is that the sound quality is different, and customers can know the difference through comparison when purchasing. Most aftermarket pickups are equipped with either alnico 5 or Alnico 2 magnets. Alnico 2 magnets have a warm tone with creamy mids and less output, while alnico 5 magnets provide higher output, more bass, and stinging, clear treble.
