Which permanent magnet material is suitable for smart drones?

The design and performance requirements of smart drones have certain requirements for permanent magnet materials, mainly reflected in high performance, lightweight, durability and low energy consumption. The following are some common permanent magnet materials suitable for smart drones:

1. Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeB) permanent magnet

Features: Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeB) is one of the strongest magnet materials currently available, with a very high magnetic energy product (i.e. a combination of magnetic field strength and magnetic field stability). This material can provide extremely strong magnetic force in a small volume, which can provide sufficient power for the motor of the drone.

Application field: Due to its excellent magnetic properties, neodymium iron boron permanent magnet materials are widely used in drone motors (such as thrust motors and servo motors). Its high magnetic density makes the motor more efficient, which can increase flight time and power output.

Advantages: strong magnetism, high efficiency, and the ability to work at high frequencies.

Disadvantages: Neodymium iron boron materials are brittle, easily affected by temperature changes, and prone to corrosion, so they need to be protected.

2. Aluminum Nickel Cobalt (AlNiCo) Permanent Magnet

Features: AlNiCo permanent magnet material is usually used in applications with high requirements for high temperature. Its magnetic force is weaker, slightly lower than that of NdFeB, but it has better high temperature stability.
Application Areas: Mainly used in some low-power drone motors, especially for motors used in high temperature environments, AlNiCo materials will perform more stably.
Advantages: Good high temperature stability, high corrosion resistance, stable magnetic properties.
Disadvantages: Low magnetic properties, resulting in the possibility of requiring a larger volume of magnets to achieve the required output power.

3. Samarium Cobalt (SmCo) Permanent Magnet

Features: Samarium Cobalt permanent magnet material is a medium-to-high performance magnet material with good temperature stability and corrosion resistance. Samarium Cobalt magnets have a high operating temperature range and can work stably for a long time in high temperature environments.
Application Areas: Due to its excellent high temperature performance, Samarium Cobalt magnet material is suitable for some high-performance or high-end intelligent drones, especially in situations where high stability and high efficiency are required, such as military use or professional-grade aerial photography drones.
Advantages: good high temperature stability, corrosion resistance, stable magnetic force.
Disadvantages: high cost, more expensive than NdFeB material.

4. Ferrite permanent magnet

Features: Ferrite permanent magnet material is a traditional magnet material with low cost. Although its magnetic properties are worse than NdFeB and SmCo, it is still used in some low-end or mid-to-low-end drones due to its relatively low price and good corrosion resistance.
Applicable fields: mainly suitable for low-cost drones or motor applications that do not require very high performance.
Advantages: low cost, good corrosion resistance.
Disadvantages: poor magnetic properties, large size, heavy weight.
